Arhelger: A First Family of Fredericksburg

UNDERWRITING INTEREST FORM

The Arhelger family history and genealogy, researched, written, and compiled since 1994 by Janine Beck Briley and edited by Marsha Beck Sparks, will be published in book form in 2008. The 550 page book will be professionally designed and printed on archival paper, professionally bound with foil stamped title, and will measure 9” x 12”.

Arhelger:  A First Family of Fredericksburg contains eight chapters detailing the Arhelger’s 1845 emigration from their ancestral German home of Rittershausen to the Texas Hill Country and their life there through the early 1900’s. Woven throughout are the political, social, military, and religious influences that shaped their lives.  The book also contains an extensive genealogy section from 1600’s to present day and a separate section on each of the original seven Arhelger children and their families.  Reproductions of historical manuscripts, maps, and drawings, photographs, extensive end notes, and appendices provide important illustration and expanded information.

By any measure, Arhelger: A First Family of Fredericksburg will be considered a significant historical resource and invaluable family heirloom.  In keeping with its historical importance, Arhelger: A First Family of Fredericksburg will be published with quality design work and lasting materials.

Written pledges to purchase the book(s) at an estimated cost of $50 per book were made in the past 9 years.  Family contributions have produced a treasure-trove of photographs, historical accounts and anecdotes, manuscripts, books, family trees, and much, much more.  These contributions along with family encouragement and trust have brought this long anticipated project to near completion.

The expanded scope of the book, however, along with production price increases over time, has resulted in costs higher than originally expected.  The development of maps and artwork, professional graphic design, and the printing and binding of 500 books total approximately $120 per book.  (The cost per book increases if less than 500 copies are printed.)  Underwriting, however, can help contain costs.

Underwriting to bring this project to completion is now being accepted.  Underwriters will be acknowledged in the book.  Final book pricing will be determined by the underwriting money raised.
